About
About Built in Louisville
An independent guide to Louisville's physical-product economy.
Atoms, not bits
Built in Louisville covers the parts of the local economy you can pick up, pour, bolt together or ship on a pallet: distilleries and their suppliers, food and beverage producers, consumer goods, heavy industry, hardware startups, craft studios, and the makerspaces and machine shops where new products start. Software and venture-backed tech companies are covered by our sister site, Startup Louisville, and we link there rather than duplicating it.
What you’ll find here
- The maker directory: companies sorted into seven categories, each with an overview of how that industry works in Louisville. Every listing links to a source.
- Field guides: how to prototype, find a co-packer or contract manufacturer, use state incentives, or start a craft distillery, with links to the agencies and programs involved.
- Stories: long-form features on local companies and how their products are made.
How we research
Listings and articles are built from company websites, government sources and published reporting, and we cite them inline. We don’t accept payment for listings or coverage. When something is wrong or out of date, we fix it: send corrections through the Get listed page.
Who’s behind it
Built in Louisville was started by Vik Chadha, a Louisville entrepreneur who also runs Startup Louisville.
